The Dred v. Sandford case was one important reason of civil war. In this case, a slave Dred Scott wanted to be free after his owner's death. His reason is his owner and him had lived in Illinois which is a free state. Therefore he should be a free man. However, the Supreme Court made their final decision and claimed Scott still were slave. The decision enforced the division between North and South.
