The Fifteenth Amendment prohibits the federal or the state government deny a citizen's right to vote based on their color, race and previous condition of servitude. It was ratified on February 3, 1870. This is one of amendment was passed after the civil war. However this amendment did not work really well during 19th century. Most black people could not pass the literacy test or pay the poll tax. Therefore, they still did not have right to vote.
